Aberporth Cadets

The Air Training Corps is the one of the largest single operating authorities providing the Duke of Edinburgh’s award for young people.

The Award is a four section program with three levels:

Bronze -- for those aged 14 and over

Silver  -- for those aged 15 and over and

Gold   -- for those aged 16 and over.

The sections involve:

Service – helping people in the community

Skills – covering almost any hobby, skill or interest

Physical Recreation – sport, fitness and dance

Expeditions – training for, planning and completing a journey on foot or horseback, by boat or cycle.

Residential project (Gold Award only) – a purposeful enterprise with people not previously known to the participant involving 5 days/4 nights away from home.

It would usually take a participant between 6 and 12 months to complete a Bronze Award; 12 to 18 months for a Silver Award and 18 to 24 months to complete a Gold Award. If the participant completes the preceding award then it takes approximately 6 months less to complete Silver and/or Gold Awards.

All Awards must be completed by the participant’s 25th birthday.

1429 Squadron has a long and successful history with the Award and at any one time there may be up to 25 participants across all three Awards.
