Chris Ford has been a member of 1429 Sqn since joining as a cadet in 1980. He progressed steadily through the ranks becoming a cadet warrant officer in 1986. After almost 4 years successful service in this rank he was appointed to a commission in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) in 1990. As a pilot officer he became Squadron adjutant under the then officer commanding Flt Lt T.G.Roberts, a post he was to hold for 10 years. In 1992 he was promoted to Fg Off and then in January 2000 following his promotion in November 1999 to Flt Lt he became Officer Commanding 1429. In June 2007 Flight Lieutenant Ford was appointed to Wing Staff as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Officer. His new responsibilities will include the promotion of the Award within all the squadrons of No 3 Welsh Wing.
Commenting on his new position, Flight Lieutenant Ford said:
“After such a long association with 1429 Squadron it will be strange to move on, but I look forward to my new role within No 3 Welsh Wing with enthusiasm.”
When asked, Flt Lt Ford said “I am proud and honoured to be associated with such a happy, successful Squadron and extremely proud of the commitment of the cadets to the ATC”.
