Shooting is an Olympic sport which requires concentration, determination and self discipline. However, like all sports once you have mastered the techniques then it becomes very enjoyable.

Cadets are trained in the safe operation and marksmanship principles on the following rifles:

Mk8 Rifle: fires a 0.22 inch round and used mainly on 25/30m indoor ranges.

L98A2 Rifle: fires a 5.56mm round and used by cadets over distances from 25m to 300m on outdoor ranges.

L81Rifle: this is a target rifle designed to fire very accurately over distances of 100m to 1000m on outdoor ranges.

Cadets have a chance to fire all three weapons during their service with the Corps.

Clay Target shooting: in which cadet’s fire at a clay target that is flying very fast through the air.

Cadets who achieve a high standard of shooting can take part in Corps competitions against other Wings (Taylor Trophy), other Cadet Forces (Whistler Trophy) or UK National competitions such as Commonwealth Series. There is also a chance to represent your wing at Bisley and gain a Cadet One-Hundred badge, for the cadet’s with the top hundred scores. 

As each cadet improves in their score: they can move up through the following marksmanship grades:
